Owner and Founder
Amanda Streets is a mother and life-long gardener who spent her childhood on a working farm in northern Michigan. Her family raised cows, chickens and horses, and tended to large gardens and orchards, preserving enough fresh produce for winter.
After moving to Florida for college, Amanda spent 11 years as a educator, specializing in Gifted Education in the areas of experiential and project-based learning in all areas of STEAM (Science, Technology Engineering, Art and Math), and helping with the school garden. She left public education and now focuses on ecological landscaping, permaculture, and composting. She lives in Clearwater, Florida with her young child and partner where they nurture a food forest and edible and native plant gardens.
Sharing the experience of growing food and being in nature with her child and others has been grounding and rewarding. Her goal is to help other families learn to grow food and to steward the earth better than previous generations, with a goal to change the habits of our youngest generation. Living Roots Eco Design, LLC was formed to help families have an affordable and accessible alternative to landscape and garden design, including composting help. Composting eventually became so popular that Pinellas Community Composting Alliance (now Pinellas Community Compost) was formed.
Amanda has a BS in Elementary Education from The University of Tampa, earned a Permaculture Design Certificate from Grow Permaculture and expects to complete the Foundations courses in soil health with Dr. Elaine Ingham’s Soil Foodweb School in the summer of 2020. She is an active member in the US Composting Council, Tampa Bay Network to End Hunger and Permaculture Institute of North America.
